Oral Appliance Therapy —
The Most Comfortable CPAP Alternative
Custom-fitted. Clinically proven. Small enough to fit in your pocket.
If you've been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and can't tolerate your CPAP — or if you're looking for a more comfortable, portable solution — oral appliance therapy may be exactly what you've been looking for. Dr. Ousley has fitted hundreds of patients with custom oral appliances and has seen firsthand how dramatically this treatment can change someone's quality of life.
What Is Oral Appliance Therapy?
An oral appliance is a small, custom-made device — similar to a slim mouthguard — that gently repositions your lower jaw slightly forward while you sleep. This forward position keeps the tongue from falling back, holds the airway open, and prevents the collapse that causes snoring and sleep apnea.
Unlike a CPAP, there are no masks, no hoses, no noise, and no machine on your nightstand. The appliance fits in a small case you can take anywhere.

Is Oral Appliance Therapy Right for You?
Oral appliance therapy is most effective for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea. It is also an excellent option for patients with severe sleep apnea who cannot tolerate CPAP — in these cases Dr. Ousley can combine the appliance with CPAP to dramatically improve comfort and compliance.
Good candidates include:
-
Patients diagnosed with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea
-
CPAP intolerant patients — those who have tried CPAP and cannot use it consistently
-
Patients with severe OSA who want to reduce their CPAP pressure through combination therapy
-
Snorers without a formal sleep apnea diagnosis who want a non-surgical solution
-
Patients who travel frequently and need a portable treatment option

What Sets This Practice Apart
Better Sleep Oklahoma is one of the few practices in Oklahoma City offering CBCT cone beam CT airway imaging — a 3D scan that shows the actual shape and dimensions of your airway. This allows Dr. Ousley to identify exactly where your airway is collapsing and tailor your appliance precisely to your anatomy.
At-home sleep testing is also available through our office — no overnight lab stay required. Results are reviewed by a board-certified sleep physician before treatment begins.

Oral Appliance Therapy Works Best
as Part of a Complete Plan
For some patients an oral appliance alone provides complete relief. For others — particularly those with a tongue tie or orofacial muscle dysfunction — the best results come from combining the appliance with additional treatment.
